Adult Start Racing

Probably one of the biggest challenges that the sailors face is to understand the complexity of racing. This course is designed to equip the sailor with enhanced skills to confidently compete in Club racing in most conditions.

Adult Learn2Race Squad is the entry level Off The Beach Club coaching and introductory race program for young sailors who have successfully completed the Adult L2S1 and L2S2 sailing courses, and who wish to further advance their sailing to competition level.

Adult Learn2Race Squad provides sailors with the opportunity to extend their sailing experience and build confidence on the water. It is a great way to meet new friends, practice sailing techniques and to develop an understanding of basic racing rules. Race Squad is designed to introduce sailors and their families to racing and to what it means to be part of the Club community in a fun and simple way.

Adult Learn2Race Squad participants are encouraged to purchase their own boat and join in Club racing on Saturday afternoons in the main fleet in a safe environment with a dedicated coach. There is also the option of leasing one of the club’s boats for a season.

Our Adult Learn2Sail Squad Courses are priced at $300. If you would like to be notified when course dates are confirmed please email IHYC @ indentedheadyachtclub@gmail.com.

Sailors Competencies

When I’m on the water I can……

  • Start a race with flag and sound signals

  • Stay close to the start line

  • Change sail settings to power up and depower the sails

  • Sail backwards

  • Sail the course efficiently

  • Start to use body weight to help tack and gybe

  • Identify lifts and knocks

  • Determine the bias of the starting line

  • Work efficiently as a team

And when I’m on shore I can……

  • Identify basic flags and their meanings

  • List common race course configurations

  • Explain what the control lines do and why I would adjust them

  • Explain the common rules of ‘Part 2’ racing rules of sailing

  • Explain basic sail theory and sail trimming
