The Vision for the Future - IHYC Clubhouse Rebuild

IHYC has a forward-thinking committee and in 2018, we developed a long-term Club Strategy to consolidate and grow as a community water sports club at Indented Head.

During 2019 - 2025, IHYC implemented :

  • Safety improvements for volunteers and sailors, purchasing equipment and training our volunteers

  • Growing the Wreck2Reef swim to record numbers and continuing to provide an excellent Learn2Sail program

  • Introducing the Sail Bellarine regatta, a hugely successful sailing event, held annually in May

  • Broadening membership to include swimmers and welcoming the Salty B!tches.

As part of the Strategy, IHYC has a vision for the clubhouse being:

By 2030, the IHYC clubhouse will be a multi-purpose facility supporting sailing, swimming, boating and locals. The facility will cater to people of all ages and meet the growing needs of members for the next 30 years.

To consolidate and grow the club, IHYC proposes redeveloping our clubhouse into a multi-purpose facility supporting sailing, swimming, boating, and the local community.

The proposal involves demolishing the existing Yacht Club building and replacing it with a new double-storey facility. The building will not exceed 8.1 metres AHD in height, with solar roof panels reaching a maximum of 8.72 metres AHD. The finished floor level will be 1.79 metres AHD, and the facility will include changeroom and shower facilities.

The clubhouse contains:

. Social and training – located at the front (east side) of the clubhouse, accessible from the beach,

. Member Change rooms – male and female changerooms, including eight showers and four toilets, as well as a family unisex change room,

. Boat storage – storage & work area for three boats and a tractor located at the rear (west side) of the clubhouse,

. Public toilets – public accessible toilets, including one unisex public toilet and a universal accessible facility.

Materials will include Colorbond roofing, wall cladding, grey blockwork to match existing structures, and grey aluminium balustrades.
