IHYC Equitable Access and Usage Policy

Indented Head Yacht Club (IHYC) is committed to supporting equitable access and usage for all our facilities and equipment.

Gender equity is the process of being fair to women and men in decision-making, providing resources, and addressing imbalances. Gender equity is also the process of addressing the disadvantages and barriers that some people face because of their gender and providing them with the necessary support and resources to achieve equality.

IHYC aims to ensure that everyone involved in the Club has the same opportunities, equal rights, and respect, regardless of gender.

Australian Sailing Gender Equity Goals

IHYC is affiliated with Australian Sailing and the Strategic Plan for Australian Sailing informs our planning.

In brief, Australian Sailing has a goal of

“By 2032, we have 50% female participants and gender equity is achieved within the sailing community.”

IHYC is proud to note that In 2024, IHYC membership is 55% female and 45% male.

Guiding Principles

The Gender Equity policy ensures IHYC:

  • Provides equitable opportunities for its male, female and gender-diverse members

  • Maintains an organisational culture that supports gender equity

  • Promotes a family-friendly club valuing input from women, men, and gender-diverse people

  • Regularly reviews policies, procedures and strategies to ensure gender equity is maintained.

IHYC recognises that an Equitable Access and Usage Policy aligned with the Fair Access Policy (as implemented across Victoria) is fundamental to gender equity and understands the Fair Access Policy, as being implemented by the City of Greater Geelong (CoGG), requires community sporting facilities to be made available for everyone.

The IHYC Equitable Access policy provides a framework to address barriers experienced by women and girls in accessing and using IHYC infrastructure.
