Learn2Sail for Kids
Kids L2S is a fun introductory, games-based kids learn to sail program designed for ages 7 to 12 years.
Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and all the equipment, including the boats, is provided.
Kids L2S is delivered in small groups of boats specifically designed for the program and supervised by Australian Sailing qualified Instructors and Assistant Instructors who are on the water all the time the kids are sailing.
Courses are delivered as a series of sessions (7 weeks pre-Christmas or 7 weeks post-Christmas) or as a 4 or 5 day holiday program (depending on interest). Each course of Kids L2S involves around 15 hours of participation and is focused on having fun, playing games while learning the basics of sailing.
There are four course levels that kids can progress through.
Mini-Kids L2S Intro
In Mini-Kids L2S Intro, kids are introduced to the concept of being on the water, either a rescue boat, or one of our larger training boats, one on one with both a parent and a coach. Or, on one of our child friendly Opti boats for hands on practice in shallow water with a coach.

Kids L2S1
In Kids L2S1 sailing kids sail in pairs in small boats. It’s a great way to meet new friends and kids have the chance to sail with different kids in their group.
Kids L2S2
The next level is Kids L2S2. If kids are confident, they can sail a boat on their own with lots of support, supervision and encouragement from the Instructor and Assistant Instructors.
Kids L2Race Squad
Kids L2Race Squad is a type of introductory fun racing where kids learn how to go round a race course with kids of similar ability where the main focus is on enjoyment. This is conducted in the afternoons in line with the clubs racing fleet.
Get Kids Active Program
IHYC is a registered Activity Provider for the Get Active Kids Voucher Program.
This means eligible families can apply for $200 vouchers to use toward a Learn2Sail program at IHYC.
Eligible children are aged up to 18 years and named on a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and Medicare Card.
